Overview
The Eight Extraordinary Channels are often overlooked, under-recognized, and underutilized in veterinary medicine. While the Du (Governing) and Ren (Conception) Mai are commonly used, the remaining six are not. These six channels include the Dai (Belt), Chong (Thoroughfare), Yin and Yang Qiao (Heel), and the Yin and Yang Wei (Linking) Mai. This lecture series aims to increase awareness and recognition of pattern symptoms associated with these six Extraordinary Channels. In this first hour, we will analyze why these Eight Channels are “extraordinary,” review their functions, discuss indications for selection, and explore general needling protocols. OBJECTIVES: Discuss the “extraordinary” characteristics of the Extraordinary Channels Discuss the general functions of the Extraordinary Channels. Discuss the indications for selecting an Extraordinary Channel. Discuss the needling protocols applied when accessing the Extraordinary Channels.
