Introducing Dr James Meyer - Co-Scientific Editor of the Australian Equine Veterinarian journal
12 Sep 2025
Hello to everyone I haven't yet met! I'm very excited to take on the role of journal editor, along with Dr Sarah Gough, and take on the illustrious legacy from our previous editors. I have been a member of AVA/EVA since starting vet school in 2008, and have served as the EVA YMG President and a short period as SA State Rep. I am also now the President-Elect for the AVDS.
I graduated from the inaugural class at the University of Adelaide at the end of 2013 and have worked at practices in both SA & WA, including running my own practice for 5 years. Currently I'm working at Oldbury Equine Clinic, WA.
My passions lie in Equine Dentistry and FEI Competitions. I have my Memberships in Equine Dentistry with the ANZCVS and am now the Head Subject Examiner. I'm also about to complete my CertAVP (Equine Dentistry) through the RCVS & University of Liverpool.
I am an FEI OV Level 3 (Eventing, Jumping Dressage) and EOV Level 2. I've just embarked on a dual PhD with Ghent & Adelaide Universities investigating Eventing cooldown and was privileged to recently receive the CEVA Education Scholarship.
We are always keen for contributions to the journal. If you'd like to be involved, but not sure where to start, feel free to reach out and we'll gladly help you through the process. Please feel free to reach out to us with ideas, you can email me here: meyer.jamesn@gmail.com
