This week The Project spoke with veterinarians, including AVA President Dr Warwick Vale and ASAV President Dr David Lee, about the recent surge in demand for veterinary services and the resulting effect on the wellbeing of veterinarians. This was a great opportunity to share with the public some workplace pressures faced by veterinary teams, and to correct some misconceptions about the profession. The veterinarians interviewed opened up about the challenges they and their teams face, with AVA member Dr Henshaw of Camden Valley Animal Hospital closing with an important message:

"We want to be kind to the pets, and we want the owners to be kind to us equally."

The AVA is working hard to engage with media, as they are one of the channels to help us bring awareness to the wider community about the important role veterinarians have in society and some of the challenges that the profession faces. With community education will come empathy and the understanding that for the profession to serve the community it must be thriving.

The Project is a nightly (Sunday-Friday) panel show screened nationally on Network 10, where hosts discuss daily news and current affairs. The long-running show has wide appeal as it is presented in an entertainment format. We sincerely thank The Project for working with us to bring attention to this important issue that affects the welfare of not just the veterinary profession but pets and animals in general.
