AVA Board of Directors election results announced

As per previous years the 2023 AVA Board of Director elections brought together an outstanding group of members for nomination. Our 2023 nominees included eight talented veterinarians, all of whom have shown exemplary commitment to the profession.
This year, there were vacancies for two nominees to be appointed as directors for a three-year term. We are pleased to announce that both directors whose terms had finished have been re-elected. The successful candidates were:
- Dr Sally Colgan
- Dr Alan Guilfoyle
About the re-elected Board Directors
Dr Sally Colgan
Sally graduated from the University of Sydney in 1990 and is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. She has worked in industry, mixed practice, specialist referral practice and university practice in Australia, the USA, and the UK. As an AVA member for over 30 years, she has previously served as AVI President, convenor of the AVA National Annual conference and has been a Director of the AVA since 2020. Sally supports the AVA in its unwavering commitment to animal health and welfare, and she continues to pursue avenues to advocate for health and welfare in the veterinary sector.
Dr Alan Guilfoyle
A member of the AVA since 1969 with a wealth of 51 years’ experience as a GP veterinarian, Dr Guilfoyle is a member of EVA, ASAVA and VBG, an executive member of the ACV and served as ACV President from 2017-2019. His achievements during this term included fighting the deregulation of pregnancy testing in Queensland. With over 25 years of thoroughbred racing administration experience at control body level in Queensland, Dr Guilfoyle is passionate about the sustainability of veterinary practices, ethics, the welfare of veterinarians and the mentoring of students.
We congratulate Dr Colgan and Dr Guilfoyle on the renewal of their terms which become effective from Monday 29 May 2023.
