AVA welcomes new CEO
11 Mar 2022On behalf of the AVA, the Board, members, and staff, I would like to personally welcome Dr. David Andrews to the AVA in his role as CEO.
This week, David has taken over from Stephen Albin and is undertaking inductions, meetings and introductions with the AVA family and stakeholders.
David joins AVA from his previous role as CEO of RANZCO. David brings a wealth of experience, skills and knowledge in the management of associations. David is a trained scientist but has spent the last 20 years working in commercial and management roles, primarily in the research/medical field. He has a PhD in Agricultural Chemistry from the University of Sydney, an Executive MBA from the AGSM, is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has undertaken a number of leadership development courses. With nine years’ experience as CEO of the college of Ophthalmologists he is very familiar with the governance, activities and issues around medically based member associations.
“I am very excited about joining the AVA at this time. It is clear that the board is setting a direction of increased professionalism within the organisation and providing strong advocacy and leadership for the profession. My role will be to facilitate this and I look forward to working with the staff and members on this journey.”
Stephen leaves his position as interim AVA CEO. During his time with the AVA, he led the association through a period of organisational restructure, the pandemic and strategic review. He has been instrumental in reforming the AVA in its core areas of advocacy and membership services. Stephen has nurtured an environment of professionalism within the AVA office, bringing in experts with the specific skills and attributes needed for the future. He will be leaving a much stronger, capable and resilient organisation than when he started.
