Expressions of Interest: Trustee of the AVA Benevolent Fund
10 Apr 2025The AVA Benevolent Fund is a registered charity run by AVA members to provide financial support for any veterinarian and/or their family experiencing financial hardship. The fund assists veterinarians which have suffered loss of income and/or property through bushfires, floods or other events beyond their control; accidents at work; physical or mental health problems, and personal/family problems. In the past 2 years the fund has assisted more than 20 veterinarians in need.
Dr Louisa Poutsma recently retired from her role as trustee and treasurer which she held for almost 10 years. We are extremely grateful for her dedication and commitment to the fund, wisdom, and her friendship and support of both her fellow trustees and beneficiaries of the fund.
The fund is seeking an AVA member to become a voluntary trustee to replace Dr Louisa Poutsma. The trustees consider applications for assistance and collectively make decisions regarding the financial help that can be provided. The time commitment varies with the number of email requests for assistance, typically 1-2 hours per fortnight, along with an annual meeting via Zoom or in person at the AVA Conference. Trustees are expected to respond promptly via email to requests forwarded by the secretary to allow timely decisions. Trustees also help manage the funds finances and future sustainability.
If you are interested in becoming an AVA Benevolent Fund trustee please contact the fund secretary Natalie Courtman for more information courtmankalms@hotmail.com. Expressions of interest close Friday 2 May 2025.
If you are interested in making a donation to the fund to support their important work then please donate via the website or contact the AVA.
