This week, the AVA bids farewell to Jeffrey Wilkinson, who is retiring after 13 years of dedicated service as the National Manager for Special Interest Groups and Executive Officer of Equine Veterinarians Australia (EVA.)

We are pleased to welcome Dr Ian McDonald, who will succeed Jeffrey in the role of National Manager for Special Interest Groups and Executive Officer of the Australian Cattle Veterinarians. Ian brings a wealth of experience in committee work, science communication, and team management from his previous positions at Animal Health Australia and the Centre for Invasive Species Solutions.

Jeffrey is well-known among members as the Executive Officer of EVA, and, as a devoted horseman, it was a role he found especially rewarding. Reflecting on his time at the AVA, Jeffrey said, "Animals have always been a large part of my life, particularly horses and dogs. To be able to serve Australia’s veterinarians, who care for the health and welfare of our animals, is an honour and privilege."

AVA CEO Melissa King expressed her gratitude and best wishes for Jeffrey's retirement, stating, "Jeffrey has led the Special Interest Group team with exceptional commitment and purpose. His extensive knowledge of the AVA and his friendly, welcoming presence will be greatly missed."

At last week's Bain Fallon Gala Dinner, the EVA President Dr Martin Dolinschek paid tribute to Jeffrey's leadership, noting, “The fact that we have over 250 registrations this week, a full exhibition again and that we continue to deliver exceptional member benefits across the year, every year, is because of him. We have a motivated and enthusiastic executive that goes the extra mile because of his leadership by example. Nobody wants to let Jeffrey down - the respect and trust runs deep.”

Martin added, “However, it is his compassion, his guidance and his love for all in the profession that will be Jeff’s strongest legacy. When faced with a difficult decision, those that have worked with him will always ask themselves ‘What would Jeff do?’ We will miss him dearly.”

Congratulations, Jeffrey, on a remarkable career. Thank you, and best wishes for a happy and healthy retirement.
