NSW Division President Report - April
05 May 2023New South Wales Vets have a bunch happening in May!
Some of us may be heading to AVA Annual conference in Adelaide (Say Hi if you are going along!), but closer to home a series of workshops put together with the DPI and with the support of the AVA are happening across the state. Sign up here to one near you. These workshops are all about EAD preparedness and are sure to offer hands on skills and a chance to network with colleagues with a social event at each meeting.
The Division committee has welcomed two new members – Dr Liz Barter and Dr Amy Regis. We are excited to have them on board and look forward to having them contribute to our committee moving forward!
In the advocacy space we continue to hear from members who are interested in action around companion animals and strays. With the new government promising a review into the companion animal act we are looking to collaborate with the current NSW parliament to make sure this review addresses the concerns of members. We have reached out to, and are arranging meetings with MPs to discuss a wide range of issues affecting vets in NSW.
Coming up to the end of the financial year it is important that vets across the state are taking advantage of the funding available for EAD detection. This funding allows you to test for diseases affecting FMD-susceptible species – not just if FMD is suspected. I recommend all vets who treat these species take up the testing. It is a fantastic way to add value for clients and to add to your experience in identifying a rage of diseases. Further information is available here.
Finally, we have had a rage of emails from members sharing their struggles or challenges across the state, as well as members sending through innovative ideas for problems that they have faced. We love hearing from members so please reach out to members@ava.com.au if you have anything you’d like to bring to the attention of the committee!
Happy Vetting!
