Policy Advisory Council (PAC) update

In the past 2 years AVA has been reviewing our Policy Compendium to update older policies, and delete those that are no longer needed. So far we have updated 24 existing policies, in addition to development of 11 new policies over that period.  Currently there are 20 PAC working groups updating a further 20 policies for discussion at the upcoming PAC meeting in May.   

On the 23 February, the AVA Board ratified two further updates and 3 policies for deletion, in line with PAC’s recommendations from their November 2023 Decision Point.

The Board ratified:

• Electroejaculation of bulls, rams, and bucks (update)
• AVA clinical veterinary internship guidelines (update)

The Board agreed to delete the following policies as newer policies have superseded them:

• Veterinarians in the media (2016)
• House call practice (2012)
• Use of communication technologies in delivering veterinary services (2013)

The AVA’s Policy webpage has been updated accordingly.

PAC representatives from each SIG and Division will soon consult with their members on issues of concern, so that these can be discussed with a view to developing new policies at the May meeting.

The policies developed by our Policy Councillors have wide-reaching influence and underpin advocacy work, especially AVA submissions.  We are so grateful to PAC members for this important service to the organisation!
