Priority EAD Sample Transport Subsidy
07 Nov 2025A reminder that the Emergency Animal Disease (EAD) Sample Transport Subsidy pilot is still open.
The Department of Primary Industries (DPI) fully subsidises the cost of laboratory testing for submissions meeting the Biosecurity Sciences Laboratory (BSL) specimen receipt policy, and the submitter is responsible for the costs of transporting the samples to BSL. In recognition of the potential for this cost to be a limiting factor in the submission of EAD exclusions, the DPI is piloting a sample transport subsidy.
Your eligible, routine disease investigation submissions may be transported to BSL using this sample transport subsidy if presenting clinical signs are consistent with FMD, LSD, ASF or HPAI. Testing of backyard poultry will be limited to exclusion of HPAI and other reportable diseases.
This pilot has been designed for busy mixed and large animal private practices throughout Queensland to provide administrative and financial support for the logistics of sending samples to the BSL in Coopers Plains, Brisbane, for the exclusion of EADs.
The sample transport subsidy pilot is due to finish early 2026.
Further information on accessing this sample transport subsidy is available on the Queensland Government website.
If you have genuine suspicion of an EAD, please telephone the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline as soon as possible on 1800 675 888.
