Queensland Division President's Report July 2024
25 Jun 2024Welcome everyone to the second part of the year already - and while it may feel like a countdown we have a number of exciting events for our division in the upcoming months! I am wrapping up the last of my overseas travel - having visited a number of feedlots, abattoirs and markets in Indonesia that receive our Australian cattle - as well as visiting aquaculture operations, flower growers and universities in the region. It has been an overwhelming 5 weeks travelling and learning and I look forward to coming back and sharing the insights gained over this time.
The State election looms closer - and the division has been working on delivering election priorities that are reflective of the membership base - we have been working with the feedback provided at the annual meeting and are working on developing a priority list for division.
The division has also been working on a number of advocacy projects including - Q fever vaccinations cost subsidy and reducing the barriers of veterinary services. Both reports compiled by Dr Robyn Whitaker Senior Advocacy Officer for the Division are in their final review stages and we look forward to presenting the finalised reports in the next few months.
I would also encourage all members to participate in the AVA survey run in collaboration with the University of Melbourne regarding the amount of unpaid work done by veterinarian - while a longer survey I believe it will produce valuable and significant data for our profession. lf you have not done so please follow the link to complete it - maybe with a big cuppa!
