Did you know?

❓What phentobarbital toxicosis looks like in a butcher bird? Look at the video in the supporting information of “Phenobarbital toxicosis in a pied butcherbird, Cracticus nigrogularis” BY Hill et al. in this month’s AVJ to find out.

❓What is the AVA recommended treatment and dose for methaemoglobinaemia associated with Para-aminopropiophenone (PAPP) toxicity? This treatment was well tolerated and contributed to a fair prognosis for survival of PAPP toxicosis with prompt recognition and treatment.

Answer: The Australian Veterinary Association advises an initial Methylene blue injection dose of 5 mg/kg IV titrated over 5 min diluted in 5% Dextrose in water.

❓Faecal egg counts and faecal egg count reduction tests are now recommended to guide deworming decisions for equine parasite management – read the new guidelines and find out more.

❓ The order of screw placement affects optimal tibial adjustment while minimising osteotomy gap formation when a manual reduction technique is used for TPLO in dogs.
