Read the latest from the Australian Veterinary Journal’s November issue!
10 Nov 2025Did you know?
This month’s issue has a range of articles relevant for vets as we prepare for the summer season including several important papers on tick paralysis in dogs and cats and our lead article on the relationship between extreme heat days and the risk of mortality in Australian dogs.
❓ That mortality risk for dogs on hot days begins to increase from days with temperatures of only around 33 °C
❓ That even one productive episode of vomiting or regurgitation observed in dogs with tick paralysis following admission to hospital could lead to aspiration pneumonia and respiratory complications
❓ That attachment sites of ticks are more common on the heads of dogs and necks of cats? They also differ depending on whether they are immature or mature and in reporting almost eleven thousand attachment sites, Teo and colleagues point out some less common sites.
❓ That high flow nasal oxygen therapy can be used as a weaning strategy after mechanical ventilation of dogs with tick paralysis
