SA Division President's Report- July 2024

01 Jul 2024

End of Financial year is here already!  I hope that all the stocktaking has not driven you or your teams crazy and that you are excited about any new equipment purchases that have been snuck in to help with those last minute tax deductions.

We have finally had some rain and while the agricultural outlook is looking up, it is going to be a very different season to the last few years.  It is lovely to see a tinge of green spreading across the countryside and while it has been very chilly, a great chance to enjoy a wine by the fire.

The committee have been busy organising the formation of two new branches in SA to join the longstanding Southeast Branch.  Branch formation is important as it allows us to run events to provide support and engage with members. We will very shortly have a northern and southern Adelaide branch and once all confirmed, will be aiming to run  an event before the end of the year.

In terms of advocacy, we have provided feedback on the Animal Welfare Act and will be considering the proposed changes to the Dog and Cat Management Act as well as looking forward to the development of the regulations which sit alongside our new Veterinary Practice Act.  It is exciting and important to be part of these discussions and we want to hear your thoughts and concerns to ensure that the discussions we are having are representative of our members.

We are pleased to have had some new interest in the committee and would welcome anyone who just wants to dip their toe int he water.  This is how I started.  It gives you a chance to see what its about and get your head around what your contribution could be, as well as the time commitments.  If you would be willing to help advocate for your profession and get some really fun and informative events happening then drop me a line at catherine@barossa.vet
