Tasmanian Division President's Report - October 2024

27 Sep 2024

Wow, what a month it has been.

The Tassie conference was a big hit and attendance was terrific. I was incredibly proud to see everyone back together; catching up with old friends and meeting new ones. Our speakers were amazing, the trade exhibit was informative and fun, and the gala dinner was SUPER!!

I would like to thank all the speakers for the effort they put into their presentations, the Tasmanian Division committee for their support and help, and the national AVA crew for all their hard work in pulling it together.

Those that attended should receive a survey very soon asking for your opinion for future conferences. I encourage everyone to respond, and if you didn't attend this conference, contact the AVA or me directly to share your opinions.

Things we are considering including shortening to a one-day conference, topics to be discussed, what you would like to see included, social events etc. The AVA want to make our events and advocacy directly related to what our local vets and nurses are wanting. The AVA is here to represent YOU. We will continue to work hard to ensure that we represent our profession to the best of our ability.

In other exciting news, the Tasmanian Government has officially included the Veterinary Recruitment/Retention package in the budget. This is a first for Australia, as we work with the State Government to support students, new and recent graduates, and experienced vets.

We are hoping to encourage vets to come and try practice down here. Because, as you know, once you fall in love with Tassie, it is hard to leave!!

Enjoy the spring weather and I will talk to you again soon.

Thanks,

Rhianna Booth
