  • The Discussion Panel Q&A session discussed a range of topics including
    • Difficulties experienced by the University in communicating the proposed changes to the teaching hospital before the staff consultation period concluded.
    • The juggle to balance teaching of the theory and principles of veterinary medicine and the expected Day 1 practical skills and competencies.
    • The role and investment of the veterinary profession in veterinary student education, and financial compensation including the issue of renumerating participating veterinary practices.
    • Transition to practice, supervision of new graduates and the RCVS GDP (a one year period of practice in the UK under supervision before registration).
    • Managing the breadth of clinical experience required by graduates.
    • Managing the inefficiencies of operating a teaching hospital, which produces additional costs of operation not incurred in the private sector.
