Policy Advisory Council (PAC) update

The AVA Policy Advisory Council (PAC) meeting on May 27, 2024, held at the Melbourne Convention Centre, saw exciting discussions on several key veterinary policies. Members reviewed 16 pre-final drafts on a variety of topics from, infection prevention, dentistry in non-traditional animals, drought management, electro immobilisation, emergency animal management, to farming of native fauna. Fifteen of these policies are proceeding to member comments and will be available on the AVA website to view. 

The WA Division has volunteered to be involved with the working groups for new policies on “Sustainability: implications for animal production, companion animals and veterinary practice”, “Enhancing veterinary care through Contextualised Care and Veterinary Social Services”, “Medication of dogs and cats for air transport” and “Vet board communication with vets”. If any of our members would like to contribute to these specific up and coming policies or anything mentioned in the summary document on the website, please contact Olivia Brabant as the Policy Councillor for WA.
