WA Veterinary Practice Board collaboration

05 Mar 2024

There are challenges and barriers experienced by veterinary teams to provide veterinary care to animals that meet animal welfare needs and obligations, while adhering to regulations and requirements of legislation such as those of the WA Poisons &Medicines Act, Veterinary Act and Veterinary Board. In collaboration with the VPB, the AVA are exploring opportunities to advocate for change to the WA Poisons & Medicines Act if areas are identified where benefits could flow to the veterinary profession, clients, and animals.

AVA WA Division President Dr Katie Kreutz, Division committee member Dr Katy Davis, and Senior Advocacy Officer Dr Robyn Whitaker held a highly productive meeting with the VPB to discuss this and look forward to continuing constructive work together on this project.

A representative of the VPB attends the regular AVA WA Division committee meetings to enable discussion of matters pertaining to the Veterinary Board.

The VPB also updated on their recently established Complaints Liaison Officer role to assist with guiding veterinarians through the complaints process.
