Bain Fallon Memorial Lectures 2022 wrap up and photos

The 42nd Annual Bain Fallon Memorial Lectures, held from 17 to 21 July 2022, was a resounding success.
As the first Bain Fallon event held in three years, attendees were thrilled to finally catch up with colleagues and get all the latest updates from the equine world. There were plenty of reunions between old friends, as well as the chance to make new ones. Attendees settled in for a packed five days of lectures, workshops and access to lively exhibition hall - not to mention the extensive social calendar. We also celebrated 50 years of Equine Veterinarians Australia (EVA), an extraordinary milestone for this AVA Special Interest Group.

This year’s keynote speakers were Drs Brian Anderson, Chelsie Burden and Angus McKinnon.

Dr David Johnson delivered the Pascoe Oration, taking us on a journey throughout history and reminding us how ancient the human-horse relationship really is.

He also paid tribute to Dr Patricia Ellis AM, who was an eminent figure in the equine world.
We also heard from Anastasia Easton, the granddaughter of Dr Reg Pascoe, for whom the Pascoe Oration was named. Anastasia gave us some touching insights into Dr Pascoe’s illustrious life which are detailed in her recent book.

And of course the remaining speakers delivered a wide range of engaging content, including discussing important and topical issues such as antimicrobial stewardship:
A range of speakers covered topics from diagnostic imaging to regional limb perfusion, Strangles, orthopaedic injuries, reproduction, and so much more.

There was a collegial atmosphere out in the exhibition hall, with delegates checking out some of the latest innovations, most up-to-date products and cutting edge equipment.

Roger the Racehorse, who dominated the Covetrus display, was a popular fixture.
As was BOVA's lolly stand, which provided much-needed glucose for learning brains.

The amazing student volunteers were, as usual, on hand to help register and usher attendees.

Unsurprisingly, the social events were well received.
Overall, everyone attending the 42nd Annual Bain Fallon Memorial lectures had a fantastic time, and the general consensus is that they can’t wait to do it again.
As Dr Meredith Flash, Head of Education and member of the EVA says, “What a week we had at the 42nd Bain Fallon Memorial lectures where we celebrated 50 years of EVA. It was so good to reconnect with old friends and make new ones! Congratulations to the EVA committee on putting together a thought-provoking and engaging scientific program led by keynote speakers Drs Brian Anderson, Chelsea Burden and Angus McKinnon. I am already looking forward to Bain Fallon 2023 at Twin Waters Resort on the Sunshine Coast.”
