2025 AVA Conference Program launch

The AVA is thrilled to launch the scientific program for the 2025 AVA Conference, to be held in Sydney from 12-15 May.
The 2025 event will feature up to 46 sessions daily with more than 80 speakers across 3 days of cutting-edge research and science at the International Convention Centre (ICC Sydney).
With a diverse range of sessions, workshops, keynote speakers, and networking opportunities, delegates can look forward to an engaging and inspiring experience.
AVA’s Head of Education and Events, Dr Meredith Flash is looking forward to a research–driven and practical program that brings the ‘cutting-edge’ theme to life. “We’re thrilled to welcome some remarkable international speakers, who will share their extensive global expertise and offer unique insights. Our impressive lineup of local experts also consistently delivers an exceptional learning experience. AVA Conference truly provides a one-of-a-kind opportunity to access a diverse range of veterinary knowledge, all in the one place.”
Program highlights include an enthralling session from keynote speaker and renowned oncological small animal surgeon Dr Greg Ogilvie from the US, who will present ‘Cytology for the Veterinary Practitioner’. This practical session is designed to give the practitioner background and experience on how to be a good clinical pathologist/general practitioner. The goal is to use a case-based approach to reinforce practical, realistic skills for clinical cytology.
Popular veterinary dentist Dr Crystal Loh will present ‘Extractions: Mitigating risk and managing common complications’. Dr Loh will discuss where there are extractions, there are always risks of complications, some of which can carry significant consequences that will impact the long-term health of patients. She will detail how planning of surgical flaps, use of appropriate instruments and techniques can help mitigate risks that accompany performing extractions.
Veterinary animal behaviourist and Human-Animal Bond researcher Professor Jaume Fatjo is coming all the way from Spain to present a number of topics throughout the conference, including ‘Beyond anxiety: The role of frustration in behaviour problems’ and ‘Frustration and behaviour problems in cats: when temperament and the environment clash.’
Respected Australian small animal surgeon Dr Chris Tan will spearhead a host of highly-regarded local experts who will share their insights throughout the week.
The 2025 AVA Conference with kick off with the return of Research Day on Monday 12 May, where attendees can expect a full day dedicated to the latest veterinary research. The THRIVE Veterinary Wellness Symposium will also return on Monday, inspiring and empowering attendees with an absorbing day of guest speakers and activities. There will also be a series of social events and workshops held, providing an opportunity to network and connect. with peers and industry leaders
