Animalplan 2022-2027 – Australia's National Action Plan for Production Animal Health launched
17 Mar 2023
Australia has launched the national action plan for production animal health, Animalplan 2022 to 2027. This plan consolidates over 30 existing strategies, action plans and frameworks, including both the Commonwealth Biosecurity 2030 roadmap and the recently released National Biosecurity Strategy.
Animalplan 2022 to 2027 is an ambitious national plan to strengthen animal health practices and position Australia’s livestock industries to meet emerging trends and requirements in a globally competitive market. Indirectly, it will help to sustain the communities that both support and rely on animal industries.
There was extensive consultation, which the AVA was part of, and this has resulted in agreement of seven national objectives (each with several priority activities linked to them):
- preparedness and response
- diagnostics and surveillance
- industry biosecurity
- antimicrobial resistance
- sustainability
- integrity systems
- aspects of animal welfare.
Essential to the future success of Animalplan will be continued collaboration and cooperation with our partners to effectively implement the 21 activities that make up Animalplan.
