AVA Conference - Equine program and interactive wet-lab
28 Mar 2024
Join us at AVA conference for an excellent equine stream presented by experts and specialists from a number of fields. Whether you see horses on a daily basis or every now and then in mixed practice, the program has been designed to help you treat and manage the common problems affecting older horses.
Be sure to register before 15 April to take advantage of up to 25% off the standard registration price.
Tuesday we concentrate on frequently encountered issues such as laminitis from both a medical and podiatry perspective, managing the older competition horse, pain management and dental disease in older horses. Wednesday is endocrinology day to bring you up to date on PPID and equine metabolic syndrome, as well as how to feed the senior horse. Thursday covers a variety of issues from reproduction to end of life care, as well as a focus on life after racing including ethical considerations. There's also sessions during the conference on large animal emergency disease response, deworming the older horse, and cutaneous neoplasia.
Consultations in senior equine patients are often multifactorial - there's a number of issues that need to be dealt with concurrently but don't worry, we've got you covered so you can go back to your practice with the skills, confidence and knowledge you need to improve the quality of life of your older patients.
The full program can be viewed on the AVA Conference website – selecting ‘Equine’ in the filter option will display all equine relevant sessions across the 3 days.
The Equine Distal Limb and Head Joint Injection and Nerve Block Workshop will be held at the University of Melbourne on Friday 31 May. This all day workshop, kindly sponsored by CEVA, will be led by Registered Equine Surgical Specialist, Dr Hadley Willsallen and an excellent team of demonstrators. The hands-on, interactive wet-lab will have you working in small groups, with cadaver distal limbs and heads. Attendees will refresh and review perineural and intrasynovial diagnostic anaesthesia of the distal limb and the head, including an anatomical review, needle selection, appropriate volume, and top tips. There will be a high demonstrator to delegate ratio, to allow plenty of opportunity to review anatomy and master the injections. Numbers are strictly limited, so register early to secure your place.
The now famous equine social night at the AVA Conference, Equine & Dine will be back again this May, kindly sponsored by Randlab. Hosted at the Plus 5 riverside lounge on Tuesday 27 May, the event will be an entertaining evening of collegiality and connection with new and old friends.
Don't forget to register by 15 April to save up to 25%, with even bigger savings for AVA members. Accommodation discounts are also available via the AVA Conference website.
