AVA CVP Academic Program Director: Expression of Interest

The Australian Veterinary Association (AVA) is seeking a new Academic Program Director for our professional accreditation program, the AVA Chartered Veterinary Practitioner (AVA CVP). 

The AVA CVP accreditation is offered as a mark of excellence within the veterinary profession and provides assurance to the veterinary profession and to the public of the high-quality standards and expectations afforded to a veterinarian approved to use the AVA CVP post nominals.  We are seeking an ambitious and dynamic individual who can lead and grow the AVA CVP accreditation program, while overseeing delivery of high quality academic content and excellent student learning outcomes and experience.

Key responsibilities include:

  • chairing the AVA CVP Learning and Teaching Committee and supporting AVA CVP subcommittees such as Accreditation and Appeals.
  • coordinating development and delivery of a high-quality AVA CVP education program with quality and rigorous assessment.
  • mentoring course coordinators and teaching staff to ensure high quality and consistent learning and teaching outcomes
  • fostering strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including industry, government, and veterinary education providers
  • contributing to the development and implementation of strategies to achieve AVA CVP's strategic goals, including a growth strategy for the program and oversight of AVA CVP Learning & Teaching policy and procedure,
  • leading the growth of the accreditation and course offerings
  • providing guidance to attract and retain AVA CVP students
  • supporting continuous improvement in academic service delivery.

Desired attributes:

  • Demonstrated record of leading and managing academic program development, delivery and curriculum review
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and experience in delivery of high-quality post-graduate teaching, including online.
  • Highly developed communication skills, and demonstrated ability to work with people promoting equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Experience in guiding and motivating team members to achieve common goals.
  • Veterinary degree recognised in Australia
  • Demonstrated experience of working as a veterinary practitioner
  • Demonstrable alignment with the AVA’s mission, values and culture.
  • Right to live and work in Australia.
  • AVA membership is desirable.

Key performance indicators:

  • Program growth:  Refining the AVA Chartered Veterinary Practitioner accreditation program to meet veterinary general practitioner needs and AVA strategic goals, ensuring that the program is scalable and can handle growth in demand while maintaining quality.
  • Academic leadership:  Timely progression of AVA CVP Learning & Teaching Committee agenda and meeting outcomes in consultation with the AVA CVP Program Manager.
  • Collaboration with teaching team:  Active engagement in frequency of meetings and communication with AVA CVP Program Manager, AVA CVP teaching team and AVA CVP Students to address student academic needs.
  • Review of curriculum:  Active engagement in curriculum development and review processes to uphold high quality academic and industry standards.
  • Innovative practices:  Active engagement with innovative practices for the Implementation of new teaching methods, technologies, or curriculum innovations.
  • Student support case resolution time: 90% of student’s concerns or complaints raised via the AVA CVP Student Grievance Resolution Policy and Procedure addressed within the published timeframes.

The successful candidate will need to be able to devote a number of hours each week to the role. This will fluctuate across the year depending on scheduled committee meetings and curriculum review processes. As a broad average, it will require 3-6 hours per week and up to 150 hours per annum.  This role works closely with the AVA CVP Program Manager and AVA CVP Course Coordinators.
