Victorian COVID Update: close contact quarantine exemptions expanded to all veterinary teams
24 Jan 2022The Victorian government has recognised that essential veterinary services are highly impacted by COVID. Veterinarians and veterinary staff are included under the definition of Animal services workers who provide animal health, husbandry or welfare services at any premises where animals are kept. This allows for care of all animals in our community.
Victorian essential workers in a veterinary team who are close contacts (meaning household or household-like contacts) may be exempt from quarantine requirements to attend work - so long as a number of conditions are met, and it is necessary for continuity of operations.
The definition of household or household-like contacts is more than four hours with someone who has COVID-19 inside a house, accommodation, or care facility. Although an essential worker may attend a workplace there are strict conditions to minimise risk which can be found in Exemptions on the “Checklist for Covid Contacts” page.
If at any time the exempted worker develops symptoms or tests positive on a rapid antigen test, the exemption no longer applies. If the person tests positive – they are a case and must isolate for 7 days. They must notify their employer and report their positive result.
