Enhancing the participation of veterinary practitioners in disease surveillance in southern Australia

11 Mar 2022

The Department of Agriculture Water and the Environment (DAWE) has commissioned a project to develop strategies to improve animal disease surveillance in the more remote or isolated areas of southern Australia (VIC, WA, SA, TAS. and NSW).

The key focus is on:

  • Enhancement of general surveillance through disease investigations that contribute to early detection (and/or exclusion) of Emergency Animal Diseases,
  • How private veterinary practitioners can better contribute and participate, and
  • What may be the impediments and/or what incentives may assist.

Hugh Millar and Ron Glanville (former Chief Veterinary Officers Victoria and Queensland respectively) have been appointed by the Department to undertake the project. As part of this process, they would appreciate the views of private veterinary practitioners across southern Australia, either through a telephone discussion or completion of a short questionnaire via email.

If you would like to contribute, please contact either Hugh Millar or Ron Glanville at hughvet@hotmail.com or  rj.glanville@gmail.com
