Dr Crystal Loh to travel across the ditch to share dentistry expertise at AVA Conference

The Australian Veterinary Association (AVA) is looking forward to welcoming 2025 AVA Conference keynote speaker, Dr Crystal Loh, who will be travelling from New Zealand (NZ) to share her dentistry expertise. 

Dr Loh is a board-certified veterinary dentist, and owner of New Zealand Veterinary Dentistry which offers specialised dental services in Waikato, NZ.  

Graduating from Ontario Veterinary College in 2007, Dr Loh completed an internship at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville before practicing as a general practitioner in New Zealand for over a decade.  

Acquiring memberships in Small Animal Dentistry & Oral Surgery, she completed a 3-year residency program, becoming a diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College in 2022.  

Dr Loh is a sought after speaker who shares her expertise through lectures globally and has a keen interest in oral and maxillofacial surgery, providing support and education to referring veterinarians with enthusiasm.  

Dr Crystal Loh will be presenting on the following topics: 

  • Dental radiographic interpretation 101: Fundamentals and common pathology: Tuesday 13 May, 2:30pm - 3:30pm 
  • Next level dental radiography: Tips and tricks for everyday practitioners: Tuesday 13 May, 3:30pm - 4:25pm 
  • Extractions: Mitigating risk and managing common complications: Wednesday 14 May, 8:00am - 8:55am 
  • Death of a pulp: Recognising endodontic disease and treatment options: Wednesday 14 May, 11:00am – 11:55am 
  • Dentistry game plans: Planning for success: Thursday 15 May, 8:00am – 8:55am 
  • Maxillofacial trauma in companion animals: Management at the primary care level: Thursday 15 May, 3:00pm – 4:00pm 

Alongside Dr Loh, Dr Kristen Hailstone will speak on ‘Orthodontics: How wrong can it be and how far can you go to correct it?’ and Dr Greg Ogilvie will present ‘Care beyond a cure: Newest approaches for treating oral neoplasia for 2025’. 

In addition, for veterinarians looking to take their dentistry confidence to the next level, the Australian Veterinary Dental Society will be offering their popular workshop on the final day of the conference. The safe and welcoming workshop will cover skills including taking and interpreting of dental radiology, creating mucoperiosteal flaps, surgical extractions, root tip retrieval, tackling tooth resorption lesions, performing nerve blocks, and what to do in the event of an emergency.
