02 Sep 2022
Zoos Victoria’s Wildlife Health and Welfare Advisor Dr Leanne Wicker, who the AVA previously profiled, recently featured on DFAT's Pandemic Warriors series that aired on the ABC.
Dr Wicker was instrumental in setting up the animal sanctuary Save Vietnam’s Wildlife, in conjunction with Executive Director Thai Van Nguyen. Save Vietnam’s Wildlife is committed to finding more effective solutions to secure a future for Vietnam’s wildlife. They actively rescue and rehabilitate critically endangered wild pangolins – one of the most trafficked creatures in the world – and have so far rescued 1591 individual animals. One of their aims is to fight international wildlife trafficking, which endangers animals as well as humans via the spread of viruses across species and borders.
The AVA commends Dr Wicker’s commitment to animal welfare, advocacy and wildlife rehabilitation. To learn more about Dr Wicker’s previous work rescuing endangered pangolins, please visit Pandemic Warriors : ABC iview.
