A family-friendly, accessible capital city, Adelaide provides plenty of indulgence with its art and foodie scene. It’s the gateway to South Australia’s undulating wine regions, and a short trip to pristine beaches and historic towns. Or if you prefer a bit of sport the State of Origin will be held at Adelaide oval on Wednesday 31 May. Direct flights are offered by major Australian airlines to Adelaide from every Australian capital city, and a growing number of international destinations. If you’re travelling from Melbourne, you can always take a road trip along the stunning Great Ocean Road. Or, from Darwin, take the iconic Explorer’s Way.

Use Adelaide as a base to explore some of South Australia’s most popular attractions. You can catch a ferry or short flight to Kangaroo Island. For a longer adventure, visit stunning Coffin Bay, home to an array of sea lions, sea birds and emus, or Coober Pedy, the opal capital of the world, in the vast, ochre South Australian outback. Add on a weekend to explore South Australia’s world-famous vineyards or dramatic coastline, and appreciate wildlife – from sea lions and penguins to koalas and emus.

The Adelaide Convention Centre is just a 20 minute drive, or a short trip on the metro, from Adelaide International Airport. 

Unless you intend to explore further afield, there is little need for transportation within Adelaide itself. Visitors can use free tram travel within the city centre.
