AVA Annual Conference 2023 – your one-stop-shop for public health, animal welfare, education and research!

18 May 2023

Public health, animal welfare and ethics, conservation biology and education streams are where you can engage with – and help address – problems that extend beyond pure clinical veterinary science. Enjoy thought-provoking sessions on the management of feral cats and zoonotic disease, to addressing antimicrobial resistance, balancing welfare and biosecurity, and how the veterinary sector can address Australia’s extinction crisis. Learn what problems require multi-agency responses, how those work in the real world, and the roles veterinary team members play within them.

Joint sessions are designed to leverage expertise from multiple fields, and will introduce you to collaborative, solutions-focused approaches to the biggest challenges faced by our profession – from catastrophic biodiversity loss, future pandemics, disease incursions and the workforce crisis.

Learn about the evolution of veterinary education, including initiatives to improve the sustainability of our profession, and what the latest day one competencies mean for veterinary students and universities.

Catch up with old and new friends at the conservation biologists (AVCB), public health (AVPH), animal welfare and ethics (AVAWE) and education, research and academia (VERA) combined social dinner on Wednesday May 31.

Sample South Australia’s sought-after wine and delectable foodie pub grub at the Lady Burra Brewhouse, a fifteen-minute stroll from the Adelaide Convention Centre.
