Former CVO Dr Mark Schipp to represent Asia and Oceania at the World Veterinary Association
15 Mar 2024
The AVA congratulates Dr Mark Schipp on being elected the Asia and Oceania representative at the World Veterinary Association (WVA). His extensive expertise in biosecurity, One Health, AMR, international engagement in the Pacific and south-east Asia ensures he will be an exceptional Councillor for our region.
Dr Schipp was Australia’s Chief Veterinary Officer for 12 years, retiring from the position in December 2023. During his tenure, he led Australia’s national responses to emergency animal disease incursions, provided global and national leadership on the threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and worked to strengthen veterinary services in Australia and our region.
In his WVA Councillor nomination expression of interest, Dr Schipp noted the WVA and the AVA had a similar vision and mission, “in that they seek to provide global leadership for the veterinary profession and promote animal health and welfare and public health through being recognised as the trusted and influential voice on global veterinary medicine”.
Dr Schipp has also been appointed Councillor for the Commonwealth Veterinary Association (CVA) and is Past-President of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).
