Calling on participants for the 2023 AVA Workforce Survey

The 2023 AVA Workforce Survey is open for members to provide feedback on their experiences and highlight issues for discussion. This will be the 7^th workforce survey the AVA has undertaken. These surveys are an essential temperature check of the status of the profession and are used in the advocacy work the AVA undertakes. The 2021 workforce survey, which focused on health and job satisfaction of veterinarians, has been used extensively to inform advocacy activities.

The 2023 survey, in addition to data collection around employment type and status, hours of work, role, remuneration and vacancy data, will collect data around the diversity of the profession and educational debt.

The theme of World Veterinary Day for 2023 was promotion of diversity, equity and inclusiveness in the veterinary profession, and the AVA celebrated this with a panel discussion on the topic. It became clear that we are lacking data in this area. We are very grateful to our colleagues at Australian Rainbow Vets and Allies for their assistance in forming the questions and glossary to help us gain a better understanding of the demographics and diversity of the profession.

We had a great response rate to the 2021 survey which we hope to surpass for this survey.

If you are a veterinarian who has graduated, hold a degree registerable in Australia, and currently permanently reside in Australia, please consider participating.
