Expression of Interest – NSW Veterinary Practice Legislation Review Working Group

08 Oct 2025

The AVA advocates for modern, consistent regulation of the veterinary profession across all jurisdictions. This includes the regular review and reform of legislation affecting veterinary practice to ensure it remains relevant and effective. Following the NSW Government’s 2024 response to the Parliamentary Inquiry into the veterinary workforce shortage, a review of the NSW Veterinary Practice Act 2003 and its associated regulations is anticipated.

Given the tight timeframes that are usually applied to these types of consultations, and the complexities and importance of this legislation, the AVA is making early preparations by forming a NSW Veterinary Practice Legislation Review Working Group.

The Working Group will:

  • Review input to any previous consultation around this regulatory framework
  • Identify areas that require reform to suit contemporary veterinary practice in NSW
  • Assist in developing the AVA’s submission to the anticipated consultation

Following commencement of the formal review process by the NSW DPIRD, there will also be broader opportunities for AVA members to contribute their views.

We are now calling for Expressions of Interest from AVA members who would like to be part of this Working Group.

If you are interested in contributing, please submit your EOI to Senior Advocacy Officer, Dr Robyn Whitaker, robyn.whitaker@ava.coma.au by Monday 20 October 2025.

This is a critical opportunity to help shape the future regulatory framework for veterinary practice in NSW, and we strongly encourage members with an interest in professional standards, regulation, and the future of our profession to get involved.
