Dr Clare McCook – Mentee Award finalist

This year, AVA Graduate Mentoring Program mentors and mentees were invited to participate in the 2021 Art of Mentoring Mentor/Mentee Awards. Thousands of participants from mentoring programs across Australia took part. The awards are an acknowledgement of the exceptional support provided by mentors and a celebration of the journey that mentees undertake.

We would like to congratulate Dr Clare McCook - a ‘Highly Commended’ finalist in the Mentee of the Year category.

From her mentor, Dr Anne Quain:

“Being a conscious mentor enables us to see our professional role through the eyes of someone who sees things very differently. It can be confronting. It can be validating. It can be transformative.

This year, I supported a new veterinary graduate through their first year in practice, during a global pandemic, in the face of an extreme workforce shortage.

I have been able to listen, and I hope reassure. I’ve watched her confidence grow. She’s made some brave decisions.

It’s been an honour to play a small supportive role.

In a few years’ time, I hope that she will do the same for her future colleagues. Our profession is in very good hands. Congratulations on this achievement Clare, so well deserved”.
