Results of Work Health and Safety Trends Survey released

28 Oct 2022

To coincide with National Safe Work Month, the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) have released the results of their 2022 Work Health and Safety (WHS) Trends Survey.

The report found that a number of new regulations and amendments at state and national levels meant businesses were seeking more support to meet increasing compliance requirements. This highlighted “the need for harmonised work health and safety rules nationally,” said ACCI Director of WHS Policy, Jennifer Low.

The survey also addressed psychosocial risks such as sexual harassment and bullying, confirming that businesses are seeking more information, training and resources around these issues. “There is ongoing confusion around the distinction between supporting general mental health and wellbeing, and this new concept of managing psychosocial risk,” Mrs Low said.“Understanding of this term remains low and significant effort is needed in increasing business understanding of this emerging area.”

The AVA’s stakeholder research conducted last year outlined many of the psychosocial risks and protective factors associated with the veterinary profession; these can be read in detail via this link available on our THRIVE resources page. One of the many items discussed at last week’s AVA Veterinary Wellness Roundtable was the importance of providing a physically and mentally safe working environment for all veterinary team members. A full report from our roundtable discussion will be made available in the coming months outlining our planned future activities.
