ASAV Student Member Volunteers
This year we're bringing the Australian Small Animal Veterinarians Annual Conference (ASAV) to the Darwin Convention Centre from 24 - 28 July 2022. ASAV will be joined by the Australian Veterinary Behaviour Interest Group (AVBIG), the Australian Veterinary Dental Society (AVDS), and the Unusual Pet and Avian Veterinarians (UPAV).
Anticipated to attract over 350 veterinary professionals all under one roof, this year’s Emergency Surgery and Medicine themed conference, titled “Don’t panic! The Practitioner’s Guide to the Emergency Galaxy’.

Your role as a volunteer
The main role of student volunteers will be to assist in the scientific session rooms including scanning delegates name badges on entry, assisting with speaker requirements and assisting at the registration/information desk.
AVA will provide selected AVA student volunteers:
- Accommodation for the duration of your volunteer role at a local hostel and/or hotel
- Free conference registration including access to scientific sessions (once duties are completed)
- Free access to the trade exhibition
- Breakfast, morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea will be provided to all students during their rostered shifts
- Student volunteers are also welcome to join delegates for various networking events throughout the week
- One free ASAV Recent Graduate Dinner ticket – Tuesday 26 July
- One free Gala Dinner ticket – Wednesday 27 July (only if working the full week)
Please note travel and transfers are at student’s expense (e.g. flights).
Quick breakdown of activities for the week
Sunday 24 July | 8:00am – 5:00pm
Welcome and briefing, tour of conference facilities and general set up as required.
Monday 25 – Thursday 28 July | 6:30am – 7:00pm*
Students will be required to help at one breakfast session throughout the week. Students who are rostered on will be required to arrive at 6:30am.
During the day all session doors need to be staffed and once all delegates are in their respective sessions and head counts have been completed, you will be able to attend sessions.
There are various events such as happy hours in the afternoon/early evening and the Annual General Meetings for different SIGs where the team will need your help.
Staying in contact with the Events Team Student Coordinator will enable you to understand what’s happening each day and what is required of you.
Travel and Accommodation
We will provide all student volunteers with accommodation at a nearby hostel and/or hotel which is close to the venue for the duration of their volunteer role.
Please be aware all travel and transportation costs are at the student’s expense.
Evenings
If you are not rostered on to assist with an event or if there are no functions to attend, evenings are at your own leisure.
Clothes
We encourage students to wear black pants during the conference. Otherwise we request for you to be dressed smart casual.
The conference committee will provide you with a Student Ambassador Vest so that you are noticeable as Student Representatives.
Please also bring dinner attire for the ASAV Recent Graduate Dinner and Gala Dinner if you plan on attending, the theme for the gala dinner will be advised closer to the date.

Each year we receive an abundance of applications and though we would like to take everyone, it’s just not possible. First preference will be given to students who can volunteer for the full week, Monday – Friday.
