Are you concerned about the future of the veterinary profession in WA?
If you are interest or concerned about the future of the veterinary profession - come along to this forum.
The session is open to all members of our profession and is free to attend. All veterinarians, nurses, practice managers and industry representatives are welcome. This is the final session of the AVA WA conference - but you do not have to attend the rest of the AVA conference to participate in this session.
There are a number of major issues affecting the viability of the veterinary profession world wide and specifically in our part of the world in WA.
These issues range from:
- the chronic shortage of staff,
- poor retention of qualified people within the profession,
- client expectations, education of veterinary and nursing students,
- expectations of the next generation,
- the role of corporate organisations and specialist centres in the profession, and
- financial reward and sustainability of private practice.
These are all big issue subjects but no-one is going to fix or address our professional issues - except us. This needs to come from within the profession.
Dr Cristy Secombe from the AVA will give a short summary of the situation both in Australia and around the world and she will cover some of the programs and projects the AVA is involved with.
Dr Zoe Lenard (chair of the AVBC Sustainable Practice Committee) will give a short presentation, from the AVBC perspective, on what the Veterinary Boards Council is doing.
We will also have Dr Moss Siddle and Dr Ron Glanville on the panel and they will be available to answer questions from the floor.
The forum is the final session of the annual AVA WA conference - held at the Esplanade Hotel in Fremantle.
Come along and contribute to the future of your profession.
