Awards

Every year we celebrate the achievements of our members with the Australian Small Animal Veterinarians Awards. Group members can make nominations for these awards, which bring prestige and recognition and are presented at the Australian Small Animal Veterinarians Conference.

These rewards also recognise the passion and commitment that we bring to our profession.

The Australian Small Animal Veterinarians have a number of awards to recognise the achievements of small animal veterinarians:

• ASAV Roger Clarke Practitioner of the Year Award
• John Holt Distinguished Services Award
• ASAV Award for Scientific Excellence
• ASAV Student Scholarship Prize

In addition, there are two awards selected by the Australian Veterinary Practitioner awards panel based on the following criteria and eligibility for submission(s) published within the prior 12-month period.

Nominations are not required for these two awards, as all papers that meet the below criteria and eligibility have been considered by a panel comprising the AVP Editor and two ASAV members, nominated annually by the AVP Editor and endorsed by the ASAV Executive Committee. Awards will be determined in April 2025, based on the preceding four issues of the AVP Journal.

• Atwell Award for Best Case Report
  • Criteria:
    • Scientific merit
    • Academic merit
    • Quality of paper (readability, quality of writing, documentation of findings)
    • High degree of relevance to small animal practitioners.
  • Eligibility:
    • Be an original case report published in the Australian Veterinary Practitioner
    • Eligible papers awarded at the 2025 ASAV Conference include those published from June 2024 through to March 2025.
• Atwell Award for Best Original Study
  • Criteria:
    • Be an original study published in the Australian Veterinary Practitioner
    • Scientific merit
    • Academic integrity
    • Quality of paper (readability, quality of writing, documentation of findings)
    • High degree of relevance to small animal practitioners.
  • Eligibility:
    • Eligible papers awarded at the 2025 ASAV Conference include those published from June 2024 to March 2025.

All awards will be presented to winners at the ASAV Awards Gala Dinner, during the 2025 ASAV Conference on Wednesday 27 August 2025 at the Cairns Convention Centre, Cairns QLD.
