Honouring veterinary students making a difference in conservation biology. Nominations for 2025 now open.


Do you know a veterinary student who’s passionate about conservation biology? Or are you one yourself? We’re thrilled to announce that nominations are now open for the Australian Veterinary Conservation Biology (AVCB) Student Award!

This award celebrates the exceptional contributions of veterinary students—both undergraduate (BVSc) and postgraduate (DVM)—who have demonstrated a strong commitment to conservation biology during their studies.

Let’s take this opportunity to recognise the dedication, innovation, and impact of our future veterinary conservation leaders!

Background to the Award

The AVCB Student Award recognises a veterinary student’s outstanding involvement in conservation biology. Nominees must submit a brief resume (max. 500 words) outlining their relevant work, interests, and achievements. This will be used by the selection committee to determine the award recipient.

Award inclusions

  • One complimentary registration to the AVCB Stream at the ASAV Annual Conference
  • Gala Dinner ticket at the ASAV Annual Conference
  • $500 travel stipend to assist with travel and accommodation
  • Award certificate and inclusion on the official AVCB Award Roll
  • Recognition via AVA News or the AVCB Newsletter

Eligibility criteria

  • Open to current BVSc and DVM students
  • Demonstrated interest and involvement in conservation biology
  • Evidence of commitment to a career in the veterinary profession
  • May include examples of work experience, projects, or research
  • Nominations can be made by a colleague or through self-nomination

  • Applications close on Friday 4 July 2025, 12:00am AEST.
  • Written Submission addressing the above criteria
    • in Microsoft Word format (.docx)
    • submission does not exceed 500-word limit
  • Provide your resumé with the following requirements:
    • in PDF file format (.pdf)
    • within a two (2) page limit
  • A letter of recommendation from an academic staff member involved in wildlife teaching or research
