NSW Veterinarians are invited to participate in a research study that aims to understand current passive livestock disease surveillance practices, the application of syndromic surveillance and evaluate the effectiveness of recent emergency animal disease (EAD) training and education activities for private and government veterinarians and para-veterinarians in NSW.
The AVA is our professional association and as such it is incumbent on us to help shape the Association’s vision and drive better outcomes for our profession.

AVA Member Forum

The AVA Member Forum will be a virtual event, to be held on Thursday 13 June 2024 at 7pm (AEST). AVA members are requested to pre-register.
In April, the ACT Division Committee met with the ACT Chief Pharmacist, ACT Chief Veterinary Officer, and the ACT Veterinary Practitioners Board.
The AVA is looking for members interested in joining the Education Advisory Committee (EAC). This Committee is a skills-based committee of members and staff advising the Board on the AVA’s education priorities and facilitating the implementation of the continuing professional development (CPD) plan.
Thank you for having me as your AVA SA president, I am looking forward to the challenge of reinvigorating AVA offerings in South Australia and ensuring relevance to you as our local members.
The Sheep and Goat Compensation Advisory Committee (SGCAC) and Cattle Compensation Advisory Committee (CCAC) primary role is to advise the Minister for Agriculture on recommended projects for funding from the Cattle, Sheep and Goat Compensation Fund and provide guidance for funding rounds and continuous improvements of the Livestock Biosecurity Funds Grant Program.
We would like to thank Michael Hayward for his splendid presidentship for the past 3 years. The ACT division is lucky to have his calm influence, expertise and dedication to the AVA in our ranks. In May 2024, Anna Julia Gabrielson will be attending the Councils of Presidents meetings on behalf of the Division.
With May upon us, it is almost conference time and with it happening in Melbourne this year I hope many of you are able to find the time to attend and relax in the collegial atmosphere while enjoying some world class CPD.
It is with great pleasure, and perhaps some trepidation, that I write this President’s Report after taking over the reins from Dr Zachary Lederhose as AVA NSW’s Division President.
