The AVA has once again demonstrated its commitment to advancing animal welfare and the essential role of veterinarians in welfare discussions through its submission to the NSW Draft Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Regulation 2025.
Australia's Chief Veterinary Officer Dr Beth Cookson reflects on the ongoing global threat of high pathogenicity avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1, which has caused significant losses worldwide but is yet to reach Australian shored. The Federal Government is investing over $100 million to strengthen preparedness, surveillance, and biosecurity measures, including through initiatives like Exercise Volare.
The AVA has provided a pre-budget submission for the 2025-26 NSW Government budget. The AVA makes 13 recommendations to the NSW Government to support NSW veterinarians.
The Australian Government Small Business Cyber Resilience Service offers free, tailored, person-to-person support to help small business improve their cybersecurity and recover from cyber incidents. This service provides a vital resource for veterinary businesses that may not have the technical expertise or resources to tackle these challenges on their own.
This week Dr Michael Ferguson welcomed Minister for Agriculture and Regional NSW Tara Moriarty to his veterinary clinic in Wauchope, NSW. It was a good opportunity to share with the Minister his experience of recruiting veterinary professionals to rural and regional NSW.
Following a successful seminar in May this year, members of the Mid North Coast Branch gathered again last month for a social event in Port Macquarie.
Last month, Veterinarians in the Central West AVA branch were fortunate to welcome Dr Isabelle Resch to Orange for an evening seminar on veterinary behaviour with a focus on treatment and management of cases.
