In my 5 months as your AVA President, it’s been a privilege to get to know more of our members and stakeholders.

The AVA is reaching out to the Small Business Commissioners to discuss the challenges facing the veterinary profession as part of the small business sector.

Key advocacy, policy and public affairs updates for October and November 2023. 

We are very pleased to share resources that have recently been made available by the Queensland Government as part of their community education and awareness program, in response to the consultation on stronger dog laws.

The RSPCA has alerted the AVA to a puppy with a positive PCR for distemper from the Bayswater area of Melbourne.

In memory of the 2003 Canberra bushfires, the AVA has compiled veterinarians' stories of their experiences in the bushfires to share with the next generation and capture the lessons learnt for future planning and advocacy.

Veterinarian subject matter experts from the AVA’s member body provided comment on the Proposed Wildlife Trade Management Plan: Victorian Kangaroo Harvest Management Plan 2024-2028 for consideration as an approved WTMP under section 303FO of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).

Last week, on the final day of sitting for the year, the SA Parliament passed the Veterinary Services Bill.

The 2023 AVA WA Division Annual meeting was held on 11 November 2023.
