Consultation: Victoria’s Biosecurity Strategy Implementation Plan

12 Feb 2026

Agriculture Victoria is publicly consulting on the draft implementation plan for the Victorian Biosecurity Strategy. The draft implementation plan provide detail on how to deliver the 20 priority actions across the Victorian Biosecurity Strategy 5 goals – Partnership, Prevention, Response, Management and Enablers.

Of note, the draft implementation plan for the Strategy “Priority Action 10: Undertake joint planning, training, and exercises to help identify opportunities for improving coordinated action and filling existing gaps” includes the activity to “Continue to build engagement and training pathways that build capability and boost technical specialist (nongovernment) involvement in responses as surge resources, for example private vets”.

How to Get Involved:
Please review the Victorian Biosecurity Strategy and draft implementation plan, and provide your feedback to AVA Senior Advocacy Officer, Liz Gemes at Liz.Gemes@ava.com.au by Sunday 22 March 2025 to inform the AVA representations

A collective AVA submission carries weight, but individual submissions from veterinarians further reinforce our key messages and demonstrate widespread industry support. To maximise impact, we encourage members to contribute to AVA representations and provide individual feedback. Engaging in both strengthens the profession’s influence. You can make your own individual submission by the 31 March November here.

Use of AI in Consultation Feedback: The AVA greatly values the veterinary expertise and real-world experience you bring to our consultations, as these insights are essential to ensuring our representations are accurate, credible and grounded in practical knowledge. While AI tools can be helpful, we’ve seen examples of incorrect AI references and misquotations. If you use AI when preparing your feedback, please verify the accuracy of the information and indicate that AI was used.
