Get involved - 2026 Division Elections: Nominations open
22 Jan 2026“Divisions give us a voice in decisions that directly affect how we practise in our state or territory.”
Nominations are now open for members to be involved on our Division Committees.
Divisions represent AVA members within each Australian state or territory, advocating on issues that affect the veterinary profession at that level. Whether it’s workforce shortages, mental health, regulation, licensing, or education pathways. Divisions are the conduit between local members, government stakeholders, and Veterinary Registration Boards.
They are the bridge between national AVA policy and state-level implementation - ensuring local needs are understood and acted upon.
Divisions also have a role in helping and mentoring our local AVA Branches Representative as they lead local engagement with members.
Which positions are elected?
Each Division Committee is made up of 5-9 members, including a Division President.
The election process only relates to Division Committee Members. The Division President and Division President Elect are appointed by the Committee at its first meeting after the elections. To be a candidate for either of these latter positions, a member will need to be a committee member.
Terms and re-election
The new Division Committees will have a term of two years (2026-2028). If you are an existing committee member and would like to renominate, you may do so provided you have not already served 8 consecutive years. If you have already served 8 consecutive years you will not be eligible to nominate until after you have spent at least a year off the committee. Anyone who has not yet reached 8 years consecutive service will be eligible to renominate and if successful will be able to serve a full 2-year term.
