On Wednesday 19 June, the NSW Veterinary Practitioners Board celebrated 100 years since the beginning of formal registration in NSW with the Centenary Medal Awards. The AVA was represented by Chief Executive Officer Melissa King and NSW Division President Dr Amy Lee.
The gathering at NSW Parliament House recognised the achievements of a number of outstanding veterinarians over the last 100 years. As Dr Steven Ferguson, President of the NSW Veterinary Practitioners Board said, “For many members of the profession and the public, the Board, as a regulator of the profession, is recognised mostly for its disciplinary role. But for many more members of the public, veterinarians embody empathy and compassion for all creatures and dedication to service to promote animal welfare and protect public health.”

Emeritus Professor Paul Canfield, Chair of the Centenary Committee, acknowledged the challenge of selecting recipients from all those mentioned in the Centenary Timeline. He shared that “The recipients of the medals were selected by the Committee for a variety of reasons, but all had something in common: a significant level of selflessness and devotion in their leadership and service roles.”
The AVA congratulates all the worthy recipients on their recognition.
