AVA Nominations Committee Members 

The Australian Veterinary Association (AVA) is establishing an independent Nominations Committee to support transparent, skills-based appointments to the AVA Board. We are seeking five volunteer members to join the Committee: 

  • Two (2) Independent Committee Members 
  • Three (3) AVA Member Representatives (veterinarians) 

All positions are volunteer positions, and all meetings will be held virtually. 
Applicants must be available from January 2026, when the Committee begins its work through to the end of May 2026 initially. Shortlisting and interviews may occur week commencing 15 December 2025.

 

About the Committee 

The Nominations Committee will: 

  • Review and assess nominees for AVA Board Director positions 
  • Apply the AVA Board Skills Matrix and Director position descriptions 
  • Ensure a transparent, merit-based nomination process 
  • Provide recommendations to the AVA Board via the Nominations and Governance Committee 

This is an advisory committee, not a decision-making body. 

Independent Nominations Committee Terms of Reference

 

Independent (non-veterinarian) Committee Member Roles 

We are seeking individuals with: 

  • Experience in board recruitment, appointments, or governance advisory roles 
  • Strong understanding of contemporary governance practices as recognised by formal governance training (AICD, Governance Institute) 
  • Skills in structured candidate assessment 

These roles bring an objective, external perspective to ensure fairness and rigour in the AVA Board nomination process. 

Independent (non-veterinarian) Committee Member Position Description

 

AVA Veterinarian Committee Member Roles 

We are seeking AVA members who are veterinarians registered in Australia with: 

  • Experience in governance and leadership within the veterinary or professional sectors 
  • Formal governance training (AICD, Governance Institute). 
  • Experience in recruitment including candidate selection, performance review and assessment processes. 
  • Insight into the needs and priorities of the veterinary profession 
  • Understanding of skills and strategic capabilities required on the AVA Board 

These roles bring the professional and member perspective to candidate assessment. 

AVA Veterinarian Committee Member Position Description

  • Commitment to fairness and transparency 
  • Ability to collaborate constructively in a small group 

Terms are three years, with staggered terms for continuity.
