AVA Member Updates

The AVA has released its 2023 NSW State Election Platform calling on the next State Government to support and/or address the key areas impacting the veterinary profession.

The President of the WA Division, Dr Garnett Hall, provides an update for the month of January.

The DVM4 Graduation dinner in December was a glamorous affair. Thank you to Dr Cathy Deague for representing AVA Victorian Division through her address and presentation of prizes.

Although the AVA is supportive of mechanisms to provide no-or low-cost animal health services to increase public compliance, the Victorian Division of AVA believes the burden of discounted services the context of current and emerging financial, workforce and mental health challenges of the veterinary profession needs to be more equitably shared across the community: to balance the substantial benefits that individuals and the community receive from healthy pets in most Australian homes.

To inform and answer the questions from the veterinary profession, a collaborative webinar discussed the changes occurring to veterinary education in Victoria.

The Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer's (OCVO) Pacific Engagement Program for Animal Health seeks to strengthen animal health and production, welfare, One Health, biosecurity and food security outcomes, and to improve veterinary services in the region.

With the assistance from the AVA, the University of Melbourne’s Veterinary School is hosting a webinar to talk about veterinary education in Victoria.

Queensland CVO, Dr Allison Crook, has provided the following information to advise of recent changes to Queensland’s Animal Care and Protection Act 2001 (the Act) which commenced on 12th December 2022.
