This week, the veterinary profession is celebrating Vet Nurse and Technologist Awareness Week, an opportunity to recognise the incredible contributions of veterinary nurses and technologists to animal health and wellbeing. The week culminates with Vet Nurse/Tech Appreciation Day on Friday 10 October.
From saving cattle during floods and treating koalas burnt in bushfires, to being the ones people turn to for expertise amid biosecurity threats, veterinarians are often on the frontline of humanitarian emergencies. Their work goes far beyond the clinic, placing them directly in high-stress, emotionally charged environments.
Following the NSW Government’s 2024 response to the Parliamentary Inquiry into the veterinary workforce shortage, a review of the NSW Veterinary Practice Act 2003 and its associated regulations is anticipated. The AVA is making early preparations by forming a NSW Veterinary Practice Legislation Review Working Group. EOIs close Monday 20 October 2025.
Abstract submission deadline is 22 October 2025. Abstracts may present recent research, clinical projects, case series, or individual case reports covering any area of veterinary science. Selected research presentations will take place on Wednesday 20 May 2026, in collaboration with the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists.
