There is currently an Australia-wide shortage of tick paralysis antiserum due to a sudden increase in demand.
December saw the AVA Advocacy team placing two submissions for DPIRD consultations; Western Australian Biosecurity and Agriculture Management Act Review and the Standards and Guidelines for the Health and Welfare of Horses in Western Australia consultation. Brucella suis has been detected in two dogs located in the Lake Macquarie region of NSW. Veterinarians are advised to review their risk management systems, including the use of PPE to minimise the risk of transmission of Brucella suis to humans or uninfected animals.
