The AVA would like to express our sincerest gratitude to the AVA Members who took the time to provide us with their considerable and valuable feedback and insights regarding the inquiry into veterinary workforce shortages in NSW. Your expertise and comments are greatly appreciated and play a vital role in shaping our collective AVA response. We are truly grateful for the AVA Membership’s commitment to advancing the veterinary profession and addressing the critical issue of workforce shortages.
Dr Adele Feakes (AVA SA Division President) and Dr David Andrews (AVA CEO) met with the SA Minister for Primary Industries and Resources.
The AVA is looking for members interested in joining the Education Advisory Committee (EAC). The EAC is a skills-based committee of members and staff advising the Board on the AVA’s education priorities and facilitating the implementation of the continuing education plan.
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of One Health, the collaborative, multisectoral and transdisciplinary approach to optimising the health of all living things, that recognises the interdependence of the health of humans, animals, plants and the environment. The One Health approach is essential to preventing, predicting, detecting, and responding to future global health threats. Given the importance of animals including wildlife in our lives, veterinarians are at the coalface of operationalising One Health and have an important role to play.

The Wildlife Emergency Support Network (WESN) is a partnership for the targeted recruitment, training, accreditation and pre deployment coordination of veterinary services and wildlife rehabilitator or rescue volunteers, who can assist DEECA in undertaking response activities when requested.
At the Victorian Division meeting in May, I stepped in to the very large shoes of our immediate past president, and those before him, accepting the Presidency of the Victorian Division Executive Committee.
When I joined the AVA as a final year vet student, I had no idea how involved I could become with the Association and how I would come to rely on it for support and guidance.
