The AVA Victorian Division is active in lobbying government on issues relating to animal welfare and veterinary practice in Victoria.

Under the Victorian Emergency Animal Welfare Plan (established on recommendation of the Royal Commission of the Black Saturday Bushfires), the AVA is responsible for maintaining a database of veterinary volunteers for the purpose of supplying volunteers to government agencies if the need arises for assistance with bushfires or other animal emergencies.
Yesterday, ahead of the general notification, Australian Veterinary Association was informed of proposed changes to veterinary education at the University of Melbourne including the proposed changes to the operation of the U-Vet Animal Hospital at Werribee.
